Rather like her exceptional Charleston soft brie, Kris Lloyd oozes with optimism, but even she is amazed at the growth of her company Woodside Cheese Wrights.

In the last six months of 2011, revenue climbed 35 per cent compared with the same period in 2010.

In 13 years she has turned around the Adelaide Hills business that she bought in 1999 for what she guardedly says was “not much, but not a steal”, despite starting with no knowledge at all about cheesemaking. Read the rest of this entry »

Chocoholics! Indulge your passion

Hahndorf chocolatier Sarina Waterman will share her knowledge of chocolate with fellow chocoholics at an event to be held at the Mt Barker library.

Chocoholics can indulge their passion at the Mt Barker library next month.
A special Indulgence: Chocolate event will take participants through the world of cacao, with chocolate and liqueur tasting and cooking featuring chocolate as the key ingredient.
It is the second in the library’s Indulgence series, with the inaugural event held earlier this year focusing on cheese.
Hahndorf based chocolatier Sarina Waterman will share her knowledge and experiences with chocolate, talk about the sources of cacao and outline single origin chocolate from around the world.
She will cook some decadent desserts, with participants given copies of recipes to try at home.
Indulgence: Chocolate will be held at the library on Wednesday, July 27, at 7.30pm.
The event is limited to 48 places.
Tickets are $38 and include chocolate and liquor samples.
Bookings can be made by calling the library on 8391 7312.

We use milk sourced from small, local producers.

New cellar door and art space at Woodside

Barrister’s Block Winery and Q Gallery are joining forces to launch their cellar door and art space at Woodside.
The Gallery, run by Bec Smith, has relocated from Woodside main street to the cellar door, at 141 Onkaparinga Valley Road.
Set in a large garden, the winery has plenty of space to display paintings, pottery and jewellery inside, with sculptures outdoors.
The grand opening of the cellar door and gallery is on Sunday March 7, at 11am.
